UMHO Early Child Development Program: Empowering through Play-Based Learning

In the heart of Tanzania, UMHO volunteers continue to make waves in the field of early childhood education. With a mission to revolutionize learning through play, the organization has achieved significant milestones and is set to embark on an exciting journey in the coming months. Our incredible lead in the project, Megan Jackson, is bringing Project Highlights in this blog:

  1. Play-Based Learning Activities: The team of five volunteers called Swing Project initially captured attention by introducing play-based learning activities, recognizing the importance of fostering creativity and curiosity in young minds.

  2. Curriculum Implementation: Looking ahead to January, the focus shifts towards curriculum implementation. The organization proudly unveils its curriculum, adapted from Birth to 5 Matters, incorporating innovative skill names that enhance the learning experience for children.

  3. Partnership with Share the Happiness: In a moment of joy and collaboration, UMHO announces a partnership with Share the Happiness, designating its Tanzanian school as a hub for the implementation of dough disco and squiggle activities. These initiatives specifically target the development of fine and gross motor skills in children.

  4. Empowering Local Teachers: Our dedicated team is committed to delivering high-quality education by partnering with additional learning providers. The long-term vision includes empowering local teachers to share these valuable skills and propagate best practices in early childhood education.

  5. Future Goals: Aiming to become a model school for play-based learning, UMHO has set its sights on establishing a community development center. This ambitious goal reflects a commitment to holistic education and community empowerment.

  6. Advocacy at Tanzania's First Paediatric Health Congress: The Swing Project had the honor of speaking at Tanzania's inaugural Paediatric Health Congress. The team emphasized the vital need for play-based learning and established connections with the Early Childhood Development Network, fostering collaborative efforts for the future.
